Finding a Job – Lifeworks Career Development
Through Lifeworks Career Development, people with disabilities have the opportunity to work part-time, full-time, or on a temporary basis. We focus on helping our clients be active, engaged members of the community. The job opportunities we pursue enable our clients to become integrated into the workforce. They are employed onsite at area businesses—providing real jobs with real pay, real responsibilities, and real rewards.
How It Works
In preparation for employment, we help clients develop a resume and learn interviewing and other job skills. By assessing individual skills and discovering their interests, we find the jobs that fit best. Once employed, a Lifeworks job coach provides clients with ongoing support to develop work and social skills.
In 2009 we worked with 299 business partners to provide jobs for 662 clients. These clients earned $4.1 million for themselves, and made an average wage of $8.32 per hour. Our community-based employment services are accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF), which allows us to provide a broader range of employment services to Rehabilitative Services clients. While on the job, Lifeworks clients acquire new skills, are part of a team, and find new ways to be successful, including advancement to more challenging positions. Our goal is to help our clients develop their careers and satisfy their ambitions. As clients gain skills, we look for new opportunities within the same company, or a different one, to continue to challenge them.
Lifeworks partners with companies of all sizes, from small, family-run businesses to large corporations.
